One of the consequences of the financial crisis is the effect that it has had on the property market. Many people are now choosing to re-design or re-model their existing homes instead of buying new ones, and with today’s technology, home remodeling is changing people’s lives.
In conjunction with the new features that technology offers us, we also see factors such as energy and time-saving measures as new trends in the world of home remodeling and interior design. Regardless of their functionality, however, we still want our homes to be beautiful. And this is the challenge faced by many designers.
So, bearing this in mind, what are some of 2016’s top remodeling trends?
As we see developments in smart technology, we are seeing an increased amount of appliances which are being controlled through smartphones. Major companies are coming up with luxury ranges of appliances such as dishwashers and refrigerators which can be used in conjunction with smart technology. For example, the fridge which knows when you are running out of something and directly orders it for you. There are also appliances which can be controlled by Wi-Fi and kitchen concierge services, which will let you know if something goes wrong.
LOW MAINTENANCE AND TIME SAVING
Time is one of our most treasured possessions in today’s world. So we don’t want to be faffing around with extra cleaning or maintenance work. This is why a current favorite is the quartz counter top. It looks great but requires nowhere near the upkeep of granite, marble, or other stone counter tops. We are also seeing a lot of new technology and design that help save us time, such as the development of stainless steel pots and pans, which resist fingerprints, are sturdier, and better heat conductors.
The way that we design our renovations is also changing. We can now use technology to help us re-model. This means that home owners can see what their ‘new’ home will look like at the design stage – giving them the opportunity to change or remove aspects that they don’t like.
Another new trend that we see in kitchens is the popularity of restaurant kitchen features in the home – such as smokers and pizza ovens. This shows that while we are spending less and less time on everyday cooking, we are looking to cook great food when we have the time.
As we are becoming more aware of reducing water wastage, technology is accompanying us. These include water purifiers which use the water vapor in humid air to create water, smart heaters which only turn on when you need it, and steam washers.
As you can see, the majority of the remodeling trends of 2016 are linked directly to the technology that we currently have available. They all serve to make our lives easier, save on energy or water, while keeping our homes looking beautiful.
